SAMMY BORREGO Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, Sammy Borrego will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez. Reverend Pat Valdez, C. R. will officiate. A Rosary Service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 7p.m. at Ertel Funeral Home. Sammy Borrego was born on June 27, 1932 to Pauline Martinez Borrego and Joe Borrego. He was born and raised in Cortez, Colorado with his two sisters and four brothers. He worked as a rancher until he was injured in a car accident. Sammy passed away at the age of 83. He resided at Vista Grande Nursing Home for the past three years. Sammy enjoyed spending time with his family members telling stories and making jokes. Watching wrestling events and old cowboy movies were his favorite pastimes. John Wayne was his hero. Sammy is survived by his loving sister and caregiver, Mary Lou Lobato of Cortez, CO and his son, Dwayne Billsie and wife Deloris and grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Elsie Garcia, Gilbert Chavez, Benny Chavez, Tony Borrego, and Kenny Borrego.
