Ruth Louise Mitchell

April 11, 1928 — March 2, 2022

Ruth Mitchell, a longtime resident of Barstow, CA, passed away on March 2, 2022 in Farmington, NM. She was 93 years old. Ruth was born in Detroit, MI. She was the second of five children born to Samuel Robert "Bob" and Della May Gullion.

After residing for a time in De Soto, MO, the family moved to Los Angeles, where Ruth graduated from high school, began her first job as a telephone switchboard operator, and eventually met her beloved husband Charles Mitchell. The couple had one son, Robert. The family moved to Barstow in 1962 when her husband was offered employment with the California Agricultural Inspection Station.

Ruth was well known for her kind and caring personality. She was involved with the PTA at Skyline North Elementary School, and helped organize fundraising events. She also liked caring for young children and ran a home daycare for several years. Ruth was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1972, and she enjoyed helping others study the Bible throughout the remainder of her life.

Ruth was an avid reader, and she loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. She was renowned for sewing custom fabric dolls and making delicious fruit preserves, jellies and jams that she shared with family and friends. Ruth loved to travel. After retirement, she and her husband Charlie often made road trips across the United States and into Canada, visiting friends and relatives along the way.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Mitchell; her brother, Eugene Gullion; and her sisters, Phyllis Adamson and Marilyn Kenyon.

Ruth is survived by her son Robert and wife Julia; her sister, Shirly Kennedy; nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends.
