RUTH GARLINGHOUSE SMITH Funeral services for lifelong Lewis resident Ruth Garlinghouse Smith will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 at Ertel Memorial Chapel with Pastor Greg Schneck officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Ruth was born the daughter of John and Leela (Griffin) Huckabay on March 18, 1915 at Colony, Okla. She passed away at Mesa View Retirement Home on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the age of 94. Ruth and her husband, Jim "Bub" Garlinghouse, were longtime residents of the Lewis area. She was a member of the Lewis Methodist Church, United Methodist Church Ladies Club and the Lewis Grange for many years. In the more recent years Ruth was a member of the Montelores Baptist Church in Lewis and of the Red Hat Ladies Club in Arizona. She loved to garden, cross stitch, embroidery and cook. Following Bub's death in 1990 Ruth married Carl Smith. Surviving Ruth are her children, Carolyn Stephens and husband, Ron and James R. Garlinghouse and wife, Kay all of Lewis; five grandchildren, Cindy, David, Mike, Marc and Monica and nine great grandchildren, Buddy, Cassie, Allison, Hannah, Sarah, Courtney, Zachary, Hunter and Brody; and by her brother, J.T. Huckabay of Reedley, Calif. Preceding Ruth in death were her parents; and her husbands, Jim "Bub" Garlinghouse and Carl Smith.
