ROY LYNN KINGERY Funeral services are to be held for Roy Lynn Kingery at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4 at Cortez Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Roy was born on March 28, 1930 in Cortez to Walter and Lillian Kingery. He passed away at his home in Cortez May 29, 2010 at the age of 80. Roy was born and raised in Cortez and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1952. In returning from the service Roy married Joyce Vernice Pulliam in Yuma Arizona in route to Cortez to make their home. In this union they had three children; Jim, Lynn and Danny. Roy worked a large portion of his life driving truck starting with the transportation of uranium ore. He later transitioned to mechanic work, working on the same trucks he drove for many years and retired in January of 1992. Roy was preceded in death by twin brothers Dean and Gene Kingery, his father Walter Kingery, mother Lillian Kingery his wife Joyce Kingery and brother William Kingery. Roy met Karen Fitzgerald and was married August 31, 1991 in Las Vegas and they continued to make their home in Cortez. Surviving Roy is wife Karen of Cortez, Jim and Cathy Kingery of Cortez and their sons, Nicholas (Amber) and Christopher Kingery. Lynn and Max Pedigo of Aztec New Mexico and their children, Shane (Mona) Pedigo, Jennifer (Dan) Pitman and Robin Pedigo. Danny and Robin Kingery of Kremmling and their daughters, Mariah Kingery and Latisha Valdez-Kingery. Step children include Donald and Clea Steerman of Lamar and their children, Michelle, James, Jeanette and Becca Steerman. Sandy and Stan Eubanks of Cortez and their children Brandon, Casey and Rindy. Sonie and Matt Buffington of Dove Creek and their children, Drew, Shayla (Chris) Frobom. Shawna and Kenny McLaughlin of Cortez and their daughters, Haley and Ronni. Devan and Bobbie Steerman of Hesperus and their daughters, Sarah and Taylah. Cammy and Britt Atkins of Lubock Texas and their children, Randy, Brittney, Justin and Kaitlyn. Roy is also survived by numerous great grand children. Roy had a great love for the outdoors and could be found at one of the local lakes fishing most weekends. Roy finally made his dream fishing trip to Alaska in 2006. An important milestone in Roy’s life was to celebrate his 80th birthday, which was held at the Calvin Denton Room March 28, 2010. Many friends and family attended his celebration. Roy enjoyed being with family and friends and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to a memorial fund set up in Roy’s name at Citizens State Bank. Contributions will be donated to the local Salvation Army.
