ROY JOHN TIBBETS Memorial services for lifelong Mancos resident, Roy John Tibbets will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 14 at the V.F.W. in Mancos. A meal and reception will follow the service. Roy was born on August 9, 1918 in Cortez, the son of John Cloud and Ann (Elliot) Tibbets. He passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital. Roy was 85 years old. Roy defended his country in the Navy as a Sea Bee. On July 14, 1944 in Long Beach, Calif. Roy married Daphne Jean Pecht. Roy graduated from Ft. Lewis College, and continued his working career as an accomplished welder. He remained an active member of this community, both as a community volunteer and a Boy Scout Leader. Roy was also a member of the V.F.W. in Mancos. Surviving Roy are his beloved wife, Daphne Tibbets of Mancos; his children, R.D. Tibbets of Mancos, Dallas Tibbets and wife, Pat of Spokane, Wash., and Leila Parga and husband, Dallas of Cortez; his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marie Winters and husband, Dewey of Cortez. Preceding Roy in death were his parents; his brother, Dale Kelly Tibbets; as well as two other brothers and two sisters. Memorial contributions can be made in Roy’s name at Mancos State Bank.
