ROSE K. FRAILEY Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Rose K. Frailey will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Reverend Ray White will be officiating. A visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Ertel Chapel. Rose was born on August 16, 1916 to Samuel Clarence and Susan Marie (Theisen) Karber in Gray, Okla. which is in Beaver County. She went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2006 at the age of 89. She was raised on a farm in Oklahoma and was the 3rd oldest of 12 children. In 1939 Rose met and married Clarence Gee Glasscock. In 1957 the family moved to Cortez where Rose became a single mother and worked as a waitress in order to provide for herself and her children. Then, in 1963 she met and married Lester Grant Frailey. Rose loved to fish and she taught her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren all of her fishing secrets. The best one was spittin’ on the worm before casting out the line. The time she spent with her family was very special to her. She made each child feel like they were very special and had a unique relationship with each one of them. Even though she had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she thought of each of them on their birthday. She would pick out just the right card for that child and lovingly place a dollar inside. In all the years that she did this she only forgot once. Rose was fighting cancer and was very sick due to the treatments she had been receiving. When she realized that she missed it, she felt terrible. Rose loved to bake and when you walked in the front door the wonderful smell of fresh cinnamon rolls or fresh baked pie or maybe her special sugar cookies, greeted you. She always had something good to eat and she was always serving. She also had a love for crocheting. She made doilies, table clothes, Afghans and many other creations for all her friends and family members. Rose also made beautiful jean pocket quilts for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each quilt is a cherished possession. Her sewing machine was a wonderful tool in her hands and she could make beautiful things form old yard sale hand me downs and could see the potential beauty in some of the most unusual things. Her amazing talent will be greatly missed. Rose is survived by four children, Ruth Ann Curry of yucca Valley, Calif., Burley Gee Glasscock and his wife, divine of Casper, Wyo. Vonita Rose Hinton and husband, Jerry of Cortez and Jean Cowan of Denver, Colo.; several of her children’s friends that called her “mom”; three brothers, Ben Karber and wife, Lois, Jim Karber and wife, Lib, and Robert Karber and wife, Mary Ann; four sisters, Daisey Kennel, Vonita Barnes and husband, Walter, Ruth Hudson and Lorene Taylor; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Samuel and Susan Karber; her husband of 24 years, Lester Grant Frailey; step-daughter, Evelyn Froman; step-son, Dick Cowan; and three brothers and one sister, Leonard, Jake, Joe Karber and Marie Jewel.
