Ronald Wayne "Ron" Smith

RONALD WAYNE “RON” SMITH Memorial services for Cortez resident Ronald Wayne “Ron” Smith will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 18 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Reverend Erika Meyer and Carol Tookey will officiate. Ron was born on February 8, 1929 in Scottsbluff, Neb. the son of Merritt D. and Vernese Marie (Bedwell) Smith. He passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 78. Ron married Judith Irene Burley on June 26, 1954 in Los Angeles, Calif. Ron served on the faculty of the University of California at San Francisco Medical School Obstetrics and Gynecology departments. He was in private practice for 25 years in San Francisco. Ron then went on to spend five years with Indian Health in Chinle, Ariz. He attained the 3rd Order Society of St. Francis through his Episcopalian service. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed ham radios and woodworking. Surviving Ron are his wife, Judith Smith of Cortez; his children, Amy I. Mead and husband, George of West Linn, Ore., David M. Smith and wife, Rose of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Morgan P. Smith of San Francisco, Calif.; his grandchildren, Erin, Megan and MacKenzie Butts, and Anna Smith; and his half-brother, Allen Moore of Redmond, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Ron’s name to the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church to assist Grace’s Kitchen.
