RONALD "WARD" THOMPSON A gathering and remembrance for Ronald "Ward" Thompson, 56 of Cortez, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7 at his home, 26771 Road N, Cortez. Ward was born June 24, 1959 in Lincoln, Neb. to Wilbert Arlen and Patricia Ann (Drager) Thompson. He passed away at his home on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Raised as an "Army Brat", Ward spent 3 1/2 years in Germany, and as an adult, he lived in several states but always considered Colorado his home. His love of the outdoors was expressed through time spent hunting, fishing, backpacking, four wheeling and camping. Ward's caring nature was best demonstrated through his career in nursing. He also had a love for dogs. Ward was a proud member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. Surviving Ward are his wife, Brenda Siracusan of Cortez; his mother and step-father, Patricia and Burton Helmbolt of Pleasant View, Colo.; his siblings, Rex Thompson of Pleasant View, Russell Thompson of Concrete, Wash., and Darlene Foley and husband, Paul of Norman, Okla.; by step-brothers, Burton Helmbolt and Tony Helmbolt; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Ward was preceded in death by his father; and two sisters, Dianna Beth Young and Denise Thompson.
