Ronald Curtis Hamilton was born on January 18, 1945, in Kirbyville, Texas. After recently reaching a milestone 80th birthday, he rejoined the heavens on March 8, 2025. Ron was blessed to live his last days surrounded and cared for by his wife and loved ones in the comfort of his own home in Cortez, CO.
Ron grew up in Texas, served a short stint in the Army, and later made a career as a long-haul truck driver. Having spent most of his life traveling to and fro across the nation, it was always a pleasure to listen to his interesting — and usually entertaining — stories. In 1990, he serendipitously met and married his wife, Sandra, and inherited five stepchildren and several grandkids that he treated as his own. Ron retired several years ago after developing a chronic illness, and he spent the rest of his years between Cortez, CO, and Woodville, TX.
Surviving Ron is his wife of 35 years, Sandra Hamilton (née Hill) of Cortez, CO; stepson Sean Murphy of Blanding, UT; stepdaughter Trena (Mike) Penrod of Cortez, CO; and his sister-in-law Bobbie (Joe) Hamilton of Beaumont, TX. “Papa” is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Sheena and Shane Nelson, Leah and Gage Murphy, and Asher and Zavian Yazzie, as well as his great-grandchildren: Eduardo ("Lalo"), Kagan, Brentley, and Avagail. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Faye Reed and John Fred Hamilton; brother, Joe Hamilton; sisters, Johnnie Fay and Ollie; stepson, James Conover; stepdaughter, Connie Nelson; stepson, Barry Murphy, and grandson, Gavin Duran.
Ron's wishes were to be cremated, and no services are planned. We will always miss his stories, his playful spirit and laugh, his famous biscuits and gravy, and definitely that Southern Texas drawl! May your own memories of him be always near and dear to your heart.
The family sends endless appreciation and gratitude to the selfless and compassionate caregivers — especially Hospice of Montezuma — who helped ease his final transition from this world. You are true angels; Ron said so himself.
