ROBERTA STURDEVANT On March 31, 2010, long-time area resident, Roberta Sturdevant, reached the end of this life's journey. She passed away quietly in the Denver-area home of her son, John Sturdevant, Jr. Roberta's daughter, Teresa, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie, were with her at the time of her passing. A celebration of Roberta's life and memorial of her passing is planned for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Burial in the Phillips family plot in the Summit Ridge Cemetery will follow the service. Roberta was born in Wenatchee, Washington on January 13, 1938, the second daughter of Robert and Opal Phillips. She lived most of her life in the Dolores area where she fell in love and married John Sturdevant on July 12, 1954. Roberta loved life and took the greatest joy in caring for her family. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, embroidery, camping and fishing in the high country, reading science fiction, traveling, caring for her critters (wild and domestic), watching movies, and chocolate. Roberta also enjoyed her long membership in the Order of the Eastern Star and held many offices in that organization over the years including Worthy Matron. She attended the Southern Baptist church in Dolores, CO for many years and later was attended Calvary Church in Longmont, CO. As many may recall, she also worked for many, many years with Pleasant Press in Dolores and had her own column in the Dolores Star newspaper for much of that time. Roberta leaves behind her children, Melodie and husband Jeff St. Peter, John and wife, Stephanie Sturdevant, Miles and wife, Tammy Sturdevant, Teresa and husband, Clark Wilson. Roberta's extended family includes two sisters, Rosalind Springer and husband, Rick of Montana, and Sue McCall and husband, Paul of Cortez, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and a nephew. Her husband John; her parents, Bob and Opal; brother, Michael; and grandson, Jadon were awaiting her arrival in heaven.
