ROBERT "BOB" W. TOMPSON Bob was born on March 31, 1932 in Kansas City, Mo. to James Edward and Charlotte Edith (Witman) Tompson. He passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in Rural Montezuma County at the age of 82. Bob graduated from the Overland Park Grade School and then Shawnee Mission High School. He later married Jo Ann Shafer on December 14, 1951. This union lasted 50 years four months and ten days when cancer took her to her maker. Working in construction for many years, he came to Colorado to help remodel (ceramic tile) 426 bathrooms at Lowry Air Base in Denver. On April 10, 1996 Bob moved to Central City where he lived for 14 years and was the Assistant Chief of Police for four years; worked for the Street and Water Department, County Road and Bridge Department, and State Highway Department. Bob was transferred to Rico in 1980 then transferred to Dove Creek on March 31, 1983, retiring on July 31, 1992. Bob was a dedicated member to many organizations. He belonged to the Navy Reserves for eight and half years. He belonged to the Lions Club for 23 years and only missed one meeting during his membership. During those 23 years he served 18 years as Secretary and Treasurer. For 46 years, Bob belonged to the Elks Lodge. He served three years as secretary for them. A philanthropist at heart, Bob volunteered at the Dolores County Senior Center where they have a room called "Bob's Pool Room." He also loved eagles. Surviving Bob are his daughter, Laura Lynn Gott and husband, Richard of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, sons, brothers and sister. Memorial contributions can be made in Robert William Tompson's memory to the Dolores County Senior Center or to Hospice of Montezuma.
