ROBERT SYLVESTER “BOB” GABRIEL Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Robert Sylvester “Bob” Gabriel will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 15 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Salvador Cisneros C.R. will officiate. Bob was born on January 9, 1918 in Wathena, Kan., the son of Nicholas and Sylvia Irene (Ulrich) Gabriel. He passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007 at San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington, N.M. at the age of 89. Bob was a devoted member of the Cortez Elks Lodge #1789 and the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Surviving Bob are his son, Patrick Gabriel of Cortez; his sisters, Helen Forrester and companion, Red of Everett, WA, and Frances Mitchell of Liberty, Missouri; his friend, Barbara Boan of Farmington, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Levonia Nadine “Nate” Gabriel; his sisters, Pauline Patterson, Eulalia Poirier; and his brother, Lawrence Gabriel.
