ROBERT LOUIS SANDERS

   The Celebration of Life service will be held for Robert Louis Sanders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Lewis-Arriola Community Center. Pastor Ian Hyde will be officiating the service and Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion, Post #75. Appetizers and drinks will be available after the service.

  Bob was born January 4, 1947, in Las Vegas, N.M., the son of Robert Clarence and Leonora (Vigil) Sanders. He passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Durango, Colo., at the age of 77.

  Bob loved outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. He met and married the love of his life, Darla Sanders in 1986. After retirement from the Air Force, his main concern and interest was to help other veterans. Together Bob and Darla founded the Veterans Outreach Center in Cortez in 2014.

  Surviving Bob are his wife; and three sons, John Troy Sanders of Las Vegas, N.M., Bryan Ray Sanders of Aztec, N.M., and Jeffrey Alan Gery of Abilene, Tex. He is also survived by six grandchildren, John T.W. Sanders, Adrianna Merlene Johnson, Sierra Rei Sanders, Brianna Marie Freeman, Daniella Margarita Sanders, and Zachary Samuel Sanders.

  Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
