Robert L. Gaddis passed away on April 15, 2020 at his residence in Mancos, CO at the age of 88 after a long illness. He had been a resident of the Mancos-Cortez area for the past 27 years, and lived on the Double J Ranch with his wife, Margaret Johnson-Gaddis. For many years he was the Chair of the Republican Central Committee, well known for his own Robert’s Rules of Order, and was an active member of the Anglican Church of St. Philip in Cortez, CO.
Born in Chicago, IL on July 14, 1931, Robert was raised in the San Fernando Valley, CA. He attended UCLA, became an Ordnance Engineer for Aerojet General and then Harvey Aluminum until he moved to Solvang, CA and started a business, Nordic Knives, specializing in custom made knives. He became the authority on Randall made knives and wrote the authoritative book on that subject. He also began the annual Solvang Custom Knife Show, which continues to this day.
Robert was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alvin Robert Gaddis and Lydia Marie Lyon Gaddis; and his first wife, Patricia Murray Gaddis. He leaves behind five children, Terri Saxton, Kathy Gaddis, Sheri Crowe, Alan Gaddis, and Stuart Gaddis, all residents of California; three step children, Jeff Harvey, David Harvey, and Leslie Harvey; five grandchildren, Erin Pangborn, Michael Saxton, Riley Gaddis, Mackenzie Gaddis, Zoey Gaddis, and Jake Gaddis; and his half-brother, Todd Cooke of Arizona.
