Bob Bangs, 84, of Cortez, Colorado, passed away on January 12, 2025, just 38 hours after the death of his beloved wife, Donna. Together, they shared 61 years of love, faith, and devotion to each other, their family, and their community.
Born in McPhee, Colorado, on November 7, 1940, Bob came to know the Lord during his time in the Army, sparking a lifelong desire to serve God. His faith became the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his roles as a husband, father, and community leader. Alongside Donna, Bob raised their children in the church, instilling in them a strong Christian foundation. All three of their children came to know the Lord, a testament to the love and spiritual guidance Bob and Donna provided.
Professionally, Bob followed in his father's footsteps, working at Mesa Verde National Park for over 30 years. He took great pride in preserving the park’s historical and natural beauty, an endeavor that reflected his deep respect for the world around him.
In addition to his career, Bob served in the Army, volunteered as a firefighter, and held leadership positions as Mayor and City Council member. His dedication to service—both to his country and his community—was a defining aspect of his life.
A gifted artist, Bob found joy and peace in painting and working with his hands. Whether creating new pieces or repairing what was broken, his craftsmanship mirrored his character—thoughtful, patient, and loving.
Above all, Bob was a devoted husband to Donna, his partner in life for 61 years. Their love was evident in everything they did, and their partnership was a shining example of faith, commitment, and mutual respect. Bob’s passing, just hours after Donna’s death, reflects the inseparable bond they shared. They are now together again, eternally united.
Bob is survived by their children: daughter Trina Lee and her husband, Larry; daughter Tricia Bangs and her husband, Dale; and son Bob Bangs Jr. and his wife, Shannon. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kyle Archibeque, Cyrus Lein, Anthony Lee, Aryanna Brock, Sarah Bangs, Anna Terrell, Bethany Bangs, and Olivia Bangs; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, who passed just 38 hours before him, and [mention any other deceased family members, if applicable].
A joint celebration of Bob and Donna’s lives will be held on January 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Ertel Funeral Home in Cortez, Colorado. A burial will follow in the Veterans’ portion of the Cortez Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International to help continue Bob and Donna’s legacy of spreading the Word of God.
Bob and Donna’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew them. Together, they now rest in the arms of the Lord, united in His eternal peace.
