RITA VIVINE BARNES Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, Rita Vivine Barnes will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 13 at the Arriola Bible Church. Reverend Kent Slyter will be officiating. Rita was born on October 1, 1922 in Seattle, Wash. the daughter of Harry W. and Luella (Weckerly) Casson. She passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home. Rita was 83 years old. Rita was one of the founding members of Seniors in Service and she volunteered her time with Partners of Montezuma County. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and gardening. Surviving Rita are her daughter, Lindy L. Tate and husband, Charlie of Cortez; her grandchildren, Niki L. Quinnett and husband, Tom of Cortez, Rob L. Tate and wife, Kristin and Benjamin Tate all of Aurora, Colo., and Mike Tate and wife, Bree of Loveland, Colo.; and her brother, Russell Casson of Seattle, Wash. Also surviving her is one great-grandson, Keano Davis of Cortez. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Robert Barnes; and her daughter, Colleen Susan Barnes.
