RITA MABEL MARTINEZ Mass for lifelong area resident Rita Mabel Martinez will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Father Pat Valdez, C.R. will officiate. Rosary service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Rita was born May 22, 1917 in Durango the daughter of Manuel and Bicentea (Garcia) Herrera. She passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 100. Surviving Rita are her children, Bertha Bole of Cortez, Edward Martinez (Elisa) of Stockton, Utah, Genevieve Bebe Lopez (Tony) of Summit Ridge, and Daisy Madrid (Phil) of Phoenix, Ariz.; and by 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Jose E. Martinez; by her children, Angie Gonzales and Genevieve Martinez; and by her siblings, Josie Thomas, Alex Herrera, Herman Herrera, and Johnnie Herrera.
