Richard Leo Gallavan passed away at his home in Egnar on Monday August 7, 2017 at the age of 83. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Hazel (Davis) Gallavan. Born and raised in Durango Colorado, the son of Richard and Regina Gallavan. Richard was a lifelong resident in Southwestern Colorado living in Durango, Pagosa, Cortez and Egnar. Richard is lovingly remembered by not only his wife Hazel, but his twin sister Rita Lee, sister Sheila Aspromonte, granddaughter Brandi Higman and family, granddaughter Brittney Gillaspy and family, grandson Shane Higman and family, Granddaughter Ashley Halverson and family, grandson Chance Halverson and family and granddaughter Kristen Davis and family. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, brother John Gallavan, sister Margaret Baird, sister Catherine Hahn, brother Patrick Gallavan, sister Regina McCrory, daughter Cathy Higman and son Dale Halverson. In his early years, Richard would transport produce for the family grocery store. This was often referred to as his favorite job of them all. Richard also owned the school bus fleet for Pagosa School district, he was the owner/operator of the Piedra Store near the Piedra River, was the owner/operator of Gallavan & Tate, working for various construction companies. The second runner-up for favorite jobs was his latest duties of hauling water for Ron Ebberts. Richard had a passion for target shooting and trap shooting. He was one of the early founders of the Cortez Trap Club and took great pride in his marksmanship. Richard was an avid reader and enjoyed spending his afternoons in his shop with neighbors and friends. A graveside service will be held on Friday August 11, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Arriola cemetery.
