RICHARD ERNEST EDWARDS Memorial services for longtime area resident Richard Ernest "Dick" Edwards will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 at the Mancos United Methodist Church. Dick was born January 6, 1926 in Milwaukie, Oreg. the son of Arthur Leon and Lillie Maude (Morgan) Edwards. He passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at his home in Cortez at the age of 89. On July 16, 1949 in Aztec, N.M. Dick married Vergie Marie Robbins. With this union four children were born. Sherrlyn, Richard, Randi and Ronda. Dick's family was the most important to him. He worked very hard to take care of his family, establishing a construction business that served a wide range of areas. Dick was also a dedicated community member involved in many organizations. He was a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. #507 in Durango, American Legion Post #28 in Durango, V.F.W. #5231 in Mancos, a member and former Master of the Mancos Masonic Lodge #100 A.F. & A.M., Alkali Shrine Temple and Escalante Shrine Club, First United Methodist Church of Cortez and Mancos, was one of the first members of the Hillcrest Golf Club and an active member of the Mancos Senior Center. A true outdoorsman and sportsman, Dick enjoyed many activities such as, fishing, hunting, bowling and skiing. He was also a major rock hound. Surviving Dick are his wife, Vergie Edwards of Cortez; his children, Sherrlyn Lang and husband, Brian of St. Louis, Mo., Richard Ernest Edwards II and wife, Dianne of Shiprock, N.M., Randi Houser and husband, Mark of LaPlata, N.M. and Ronda Edwards of Durango; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; and his brother, Arthur Leon Edwards Jr. and his wife, Wanda of Durango. Preceding Dick in death are his parents. Memorial contributions can be made in Dick's memory to Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, Colo., 81321 or to an organization of your choice.
