RICHARD DEAN MCCLELLAN Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident Richard Dean McClellan will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3 at Cortez Cemetery. Military honors will be provided. Dean was born February 1, 1927 in Cortez to Morris Ray and Io (Vance) McClellan. He passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. Dean graduated from Cortez High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany from 1945-1946. Dean married his high school sweetheart, Helen Charles on June 2, 1950 in Aztec, N.M. Dean worked with his father, Morris in construction and mining and core drilling from 1958-1960. He then worked with his brother, Norman crushing gravel for the construction of the Dolores Norwood road. In 1960, Dean went to work for Perry McDonald Construction Company until the late 80's. He then was self employed doing dirt work and construction. Dean semi retired in 2000. Surviving Dean are his wife, Helen of Cortez; his son, Richard McClellan (Janice) of Cortez; and his daughter, Barbara Nutt (Dean) of Poulsbo, Wash. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jeremy Rosenbaugh (Amber) of Yellow Jacket, Colo., Randy Rosenbaugh (Laurie) of Calgary, AL, Canada, Kristopher Nutt (Kateri) of Mead, Colo., Jennifer Freeman (Josh) of Houston, Tex., and Lt. J.G. Garrett McClellan (Angie) of Norfolk, Va.; eight great-grandchildren with one arriving in August; and his brother, Norman McClellan (Sylvia) and family of Dolores. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Max McClellan.
