RICHARD CLEVE STANLEY Funeral services for longtime Lewis resident, Richard Cleve Stanley will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 20 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Empire Chapel. Interment will follow at the Lewis Cemetery. Darrell Stanley will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to service time at the church. The son of Ollis Vere and Elsie May (Hinkle) Stanley, Richard was born on January 17, 1929 in Lewis, Colo. He passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at the L.D.S. Temple in Monticello, Ut. while doing what he loved the most. Richard was 77 years old. Richard grew up in Lewis and then moved to Logan, Ut. where he attended college at Utah State University. From there he went on to serve his country in the Air Force. During this time he spent one year in Vietnam. Richard was honorably discharged and retired from the Air Force as a Major after 21 years of service. Life brought him back to Lewis and Richard spent the next 20 years as a pilot for Nielsons. Richard enjoyed many hobbies and activities. Water skiing, motorcycles, woodworking, and serving in many capacities as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints kept him busy. Surviving Richard are his loving wife of 54 years, Betty of Lewis; his children, Cynthia Thompson of Lewis, Dawn Jones of Los Alamos, N.M., Richard Cleve Stanley, Jr. of Michigan, Darrell O. Stanley of Orem, Ut., Bryan D. Stanley of South Jordan, Ut., and Dan D. Stanley of Las Vegas, Nev.; and his brother Robert Stanley of South Jordan, Ut. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceding him in death were his parents. Richard is and always will be the anchor of this family. We love you and will see you soon Dad.
