Rex Harold Byington

Rex Harold Byington was born in 1947 in Ogden, Utah. He passed on January 14, 2023 in Mancos, Colorado. He is survived by his sisters Leslie Andrews of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jamie Dayhuff of Boseman, Montana.

Rex was in the U.S. Army and during his service was deployed to Vietnam in 1967. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He earned the Purple Heart, Medal of Valor, Medal of Gallantry and the Vietnam Valor Medal.

Rex spent 19 years working at Edwards Air Force Base as a supply specialist. He moved to Mancos, Colorado in 2001 and was employed at the Cortez Animal Shelter for eight years.

Rex passed away after a long illness. His family will plan a private service for close family and friends.

The family would also like to recognize Rex’s neighbors, James and Pat Anselmo for their wonderful, limitless care of Rex throughout his journey.
