REBECCA ANN RANKIN BROOKS Born: August 8, 1922, Egnar, CO Died: May 15, 2012, Cortez, CO Rebecca was known as Billie to all her friends and relatives. Oldest of three daughters of William and Ida Rankin, she grew up in Denver and Victor, Colorado. She served her country in the US Navy between 1944 and 1946 as a member of the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service or WAVES. She was stationed in Brooklyn, NY and later at Treasure Island in San Francisco where she served as a naval gunnery instructor. She attended Fort Lewis College, took a break for the war, then graduated from Colorado State College with a B.S in nutrition. She was a loving mother, Cub Scout Den Leader, member of the PTA, and avid reader. Her interests included crafts, archeology, puzzles, history, genealogy, and playing bridge. She worked for a number of years for Oregon State University in Corvallis Oregon as a dietitian and served as a volunteer at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. Billie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Stanley Brooks, Ph.D of Cortez, her sons Robert Brooks of Davis, Calif., Ronald Brooks of Thornton, Colo., Richard Brooks of Portland, Ore., Roger Brooks of Cortez, and David Brooks of Portland, Ore., and her grandchildren John, Zoe, and Jordan Brooks. At Billie's request no services will take place.
