Funeral services for Towaoc resident, Raymond Lopez will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Towaoc Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Raymond Lopez was born on June 21, 1947 in Miranda Springs, Colo. the son of Emma Marie Cuthair and Jacob Gates Lopez. Raymond passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital, Cortez, Colo. on March 15, 2016 at age 68. Raymond held many prominent memberships and positions throughout his life including: member of the Native American Church, Ute Mountain Elders Committee, Smoke Free Coalition, police officer and public defender for the State of Colorado. Raymond by trade was a silversmith and gunsmith. He enjoyed beadwork, gambling, camping, good food. Raymond was also an eagle catcher. He was always walking and loved to do so. Raymond is survived by his siblings, Norman Cuthair Lopez (Glenda), Linda Lopez (James), Betty Mills (Bruce D. Lehi), Rutherford Mills, Ruthie Mills, Wade Mills (Sereta), Janice Lopez, Joselina Lopez, Tanis Lopez and Ivan Lopez all of Towaoc, Colo.; and his numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Henrietta Lopez.
