RAYMOND GARCIA Memorial services for lifelong Cortez resident Raymond Garcia will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8 at Mancos Church of Christ. Viewing has been scheduled for Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Raymond was born on September 3, 1951 in Cebolla, N.M. the son of Herman and Genevieve (Trujillo) Garcia. He passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at his home at the age of 57. When Raymond was in the first grade, he and his family moved from Cebolla to San Luis Valley, Colo. where he attended school in Sanford, Colo. In 1965, the family then moved to Cortez and Raymond graduated from high school in 1971. On June 28, 1986, he married Judith Ann Soderberg. Raymond enjoyed bow hunting with his good friend, Gary and his brother, Johnny. He also loved time spent camping, picnicking, 4-wheeling, hiking, riding motorcycles, tinkering with wood, and most especially, helping his brother, Johnny on his ranch. Raymond enjoying visiting with people, and listening to old time rock-n-roll, Spanish, and country music. Raymond's working career found him working at the Plywood Plant, as a tire buster for 17 years and a custodian at the local high school for 15 years. Surviving Raymond are his wife of 23 years, Judith Ann Garcia of Cortez; and his children, Genevieve Garcia of Cortez, Leticia Rae Garcia of Cortez, and Janae Garcia of Cortez. Raymond also leaves behind his siblings, Johnny Garcia and wife, Gloria of Mancos, Jessie Vialpando and husband, Raymond of Cortez, Joe Garcia and wife, Sylvia of Farmington, N.M., Leroy Garcia and wife, Peggy of Farmington, N.M., and Juana Martinez of Cortez. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents.
