RAYMOND FRED "PETE" NEELY Funeral services for longtime area resident Raymond Fred "Pete" Neely are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at the Lifeway Baptist Church. Raymond Boyd will officiate. Interment will follow at Cahone Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Pete was born on June 27, 1924 in Cahone, Colo. the son of Dennis Samuel and Viola Blanche (White) Neely. He passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. at the age of 83. Pete spent most of his working career as a welder in the construction trade. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 367 in Anchorage, Alaska. Pete was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge. Pete's family was very special to him, he loved any time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pete was a very gifted woodworker and he generously gave his beautiful creations to his friends and family. Pete's garden was second to none. He was very kind when it came to sharing the wonderful fruits and vegetables he grew. His friends, family and neighbors all anticipated the wonderful produce that Pete raised. One of the best testaments to the way Pete lived his life was his commitment to his wife, Aleene. The couple would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this August. Surviving Pete are his loving wife, Aleene Neely of Cortez; his children, Dallas Neely and wife, Leslie of Farmington, N.M., Marilyn O'Brien and husband, Don of Oregon, and Dewey Neely and wife, Shelly of Parachute, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Dennis Neely, and Douglas Neely; his siblings, Lorene Risenhoover, Claudie Neely, Jake Neely, and Bernice Lewis; and his grandson, Christopher Neely. Memorial contributions may be made in Pete's name to the Cahone Cemetery District, P.O. Box 99, Cahone, Colo. 81320.
