Ramon Denton "Ray" Ziegler

RAMON DENTON "RAY" ZIEGLER Funeral services for Ramon Denton "Ray" Ziegler will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 12 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Military honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Interment services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colo. Ray was born November 10, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio the son of Alfred P. and Bessie (Dorsey) Ziegler. He passed away at his residence at the age of 96 on Monday, June 8, 2015. After graduating from Fairview High School in 1936, Alfred attended the University of Dayton where he earned his Structural Engineering degree. Ray married the love of his life, Betty Frances Conrad on Christmas Eve, 1941. He served in U.S. Army from June 26, 1941 to March 28, 1946. While in the military, Ray served in Iceland, England, France, Germany and the United States. He was decorated with the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and European African Middle Eastern with two Battle Stars. At the time of Ray's discharge he held the rank of 2nd Lt. Captain. He came home from the war to return to work and eventually own his father's construction company, A.P. Ziegler & Co. This company was responsible for winning the bids to construct courthouses, schools, numerous projects for the University of Dayton, Meadow Gold Dairy, and the first building to house the first computer for NCR. Ray ran A.P. Ziegler & Co. until closing the business in 1968 to move out west to Bayfield, Colo. where he ran what is now known as the Cottonwood Ranch located in Texas Creek. In 1995 Ray and Betty moved to Dolores. After losing his daughter, Belinda Ann Boren in 2001, he spent the last years of his life enjoying his marriage to his loving wife, Betty, until her passing in 2011. His grandson, Josh Boren and wife, Gina and their two children, Tristen and Grady were the light in Ray's remaining years. He lived a very long, wholesome life until June 8, 2015. Surviving Ray are his grandson, Josh and his wife, Gina; and two great grandchildren, Tristen and Grady; and nephews, Paul Archer and his wife, Betty Jo of Celina, Tenn.; niece, Linda Hilderbrand and husband, Ron of Brookville, Ohio, Betty's nephew's wife, Ada Rife of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Nancy Aller of Camphill, Penn. He was preceded in death by his mother Bessie Ziegler; father, A.P. Ziegler; his brother, Paul; sister, Kay; daughter, Belinda. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Ramon Ziegler with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
