Ralph Lynn “Jim” Mitchell Jr. was born September 26, 1942 in Artesia, NM the son of Ralph Lynn Sr. and Ynaith Mable (Williams) Mitchell. He passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his residence in Mancos, CO at the age of 77.
Jim married Frances Elizabeth Grace on June 14, 1997 in Colton, CA and soon moved to Mancos, CO where they have lived for 20 years. He was a self- employed truck driver for 37 years, and later worked for his brother, Charlie Mitchell, at Western Excelsior for 10 years unloading log trucks, where he retired in 2009.
Jim liked working on vehicles of all kinds, including model cars, but especially enjoyed restoring his 1955 Ford F-100. After restoring his 55 Ford, Jim joined and was a member of the Over the Hill Gang (OTHG) car club where he served as the Vice-President. He also liked riding ‘sandrails’ dune buggies in Glamis, CA. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and hunting, and just taking long drives in the mountains.
Surviving Jim are his wife, Frances Mitchell of Mancos, CO; his children, Christina “Chris” Woodard (Don), Jeffery “Jeff” Mitchell (Carrie), Michael “Mike” Mitchell, Crystal Davis (Scott); his brother, William “Bill” Mitchell (Patty); 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charlie Mitchell, and his wife Ramona Mitchell.
A potluck and gathering of friends and family will be held in Jim’s honor from 2 – 5 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Baymont Hotel, 2279 Hawkins St., Cortez, CO.
