PLACIDA GAVINA NOLAN November 21st 1918-November 11th 2010 Funeral Mass for former Cortez resident and current Cambridge, Idaho resident, Placida Gavina Nolan will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 19 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 18 St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Placida Nolan passed away on November 11th 2010 at her residence in Cambridge Idaho. She was born November 21st 1918 in Gobernador, New Mexico to Eduardo Lucero and Elena Lucero (Muniz). Placida married Pedro Eugenio (Gene) Nolan on May 21st, 1935 in Aztec, New Mexico, they subsequently had seven children. Gene and Placida moved to Cortez in 1935 shortly after getting married and she lived there for seventy years. Four years ago she moved to Idaho with her son John and his wife Becky. She loved her garden and flowers, her hobbies included crocheting, painting, and collecting hundreds of beautiful teapots. Placida was a glorious host in her home and no one ever went hungry around her. She was the tower of the family, and everyone that knew her loved and respected her. Placida was a devout member of St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Cortez, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Placida was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro (Gene) Nolan; her brothers, George Lucero, Raymond Lucero; her sister, Della Lucero; and her granddaughter, Pamela Mendisco. Placida is survived by sister, Neoma Gallegos of Meridian, Idaho; one brother, Christopher Lucero and wife, Mary of Stillwell, Okla.; and by her children, Leonard Nolan and wife, Ramona of Sparks, Nev.; Gene Nolan and wife, Colleen of Cortez, Gerald Nolan and wife, Patty of Salinas, Calif., Helen Butt and husband, Don of Dove Creek, Della Sword and husband, Kim of Grand Junction, Colo., John Nolan and wife, Becky of Cambridge, Idaho, Dean Nolan of Henderson, Kentucky. Placida has 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grand children; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Placida also fostered many other children of family and friends who loved her dearly.
