PHYLLIS ODETTE ARMSTRONG Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident Phyllis Odette Armstrong will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 2 at Cortez Cemetery. Reverend Al Strauss will officiate. Visitation has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Phyllis was born on January 28, 1921 in Rock Creek, Kan. the daughter of Clair Russell and Rebecca Sadie (Haul) Fletcher. She passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. Phyllis married George Robert Armstrong II on September 12, 1940 in Washington, D.C. Phyllis and her family moved to the Cortez area in 1943. Phyllis worked most of her life with her husband, Judge Armstrong as a legal secretary and stenographer. She was active in the Business and Professional Women's Club, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Phi Beta Phi. Traveling and time spent with her family at Trout Lake brought Phyllis much happiness. Surviving Phyllis are her children, George Armstrong III and wife, Connie of Phoenix, Ariz., William Armstrong and Suzie of Cortez; and Patti Bird and husband, Allen of Wyoming and her grandchildren, Tyra Sosnicki and husband, Ted of Phoenix, Ariz., Tamara Abeyta and husband, Mike of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Justin Meyer and Jennifer of Thornton, Colo. Phyllis also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Tanner and Trey Abeyta; her sister, Barbara Smith of Mercer Island, Wash.; and her nephews and their families, Thomas A. Gray, Montgomery Gray, and Stuart Smith. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Judge George Armstrong.
