PHOEBA ROSE AYERS NEELY Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident Phoeba Rose Ayers Neely will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 28 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cahone Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday morning at the Ertel Chapel from 8 a.m. until service time. Rose was born on October 7, 1916 in Donovan County, Kans. the daughter of Charles William and Mary Luetta (Throckmorton)Ayers. She passed away on Monday, November 21, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Grand Junction at the age of 89. In 1926 at the age of 10, Rose moved to the Cortez area. She attended school in Cahone for a time. She later became a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed the outdoors, animals and all of nature. Her passion was dancing. She was an avid member of the Senior Citizens dance club. She was one of the big motivators to have a new dance floor put in for the Senior Citizens. “She was little but mighty!” Surviving Rose are her children, Janice Elaine Barnett and husband, Ronald of Grand Junction, Colo., and Eldon Ray Neely of Newton, Kans. She leaves five grandchildren, Rick Barnett and wife, Susan, Kerry Bynum and husband, Andre, Cory Barnett and wife, Katie, Jon Neely and wife, Cristina, and Erin Richardson and husband, Travis; as well as her great-grandchildren, Brittani, Braden and Bailey Richardson, Kory and Tyler Barnett, Piper Neely, Bhreon, Brandon, and Brittany Bynum, and Lucas Cory Barnett. Her sister and two brothers, Ruby Trone of Cortez, Wesley Ayers and wife, Peggy of Egnar, and Velda Ray Ayers and wife, Vergie of Cortez also survive Rose. Preceding her in death were her parents; and her siblings, Sylvia Risenhoover, Clyde, Millard and Ernest Ayers, and Zola Maslen.
