PEGGY JUNE “PEG” KIRKPATRICK The family of Peggy June “Peg” Kirkpatrick invites all friends and family to attend an open house to be held Sunday, January 16 at Kelly Kirkpatrick’s residence, 950 Livesay Drive, Cortez beginning at 1:30 p.m. A lifelong area resident, Peggy was born on June 17, 1933 in Quail, Tex. the daughter of Granvil and Mary Lucy (Daves) Atkinson. She passed away on January 10, 2011 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 77. Peggy graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 1950. Her class was the first to graduate from the then new MCHS building. On July 12, 1960, Peggy married Richard W. “Dick” Kirkpatrick in Seward, Alaska where she owned a cosmetology business. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved babies and children and she devoted a large part of her life to caring for little ones. Surviving Peggy are her husband of 50 years, Dick Kirkpatrick of Dolores; and her children, Kristine Neely and husband, Ralph of Cahone, Toni Turpen and husband, Kit of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kelly Kirkpatrick of Cortez. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Anthony and Raven Gallegos, Emily Melville, Taylor Turpen, Casey Turpen, and Patrick Kirkpatrick Allmon; and her siblings, Shirley Dennison and husband, Darrel of Cortez and Moss Atkinson and wife, Billie of Dolores. She was preceded in death by her father, Granvil Atkinson; her mother, Lucy DeLost; and by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Allmon.
