PEGGY JEAN GILL Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Peggy Jean Gill will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at the Cortez Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Anthony Maes will officiate. Peggy was born on January 25, 1940 in Sweet Home, Ore. the daughter of Glenn Gordon and Viola Mae (Doerfer) Burling. She passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center at the age of 71. On May 4, 1972, Peggy married Curtis Lee Gill in Cortez. Peggy was a longtime member of the Cortez Church of the Nazarene. A devoted mother, Peggy always put her children’s need first. She was a quiet woman who was never afraid to sit back and listen to those around her. In her free time, Peggy loved to crochet. She made many beautiful blankets for her family. Curtis was a loving husband who looked after Peggy up until the end. He took wonderful care of Peggy’s every need. Surviving Peggy are her husband, Curtis Gill of Cortez; and her children, Linda Beseler and husband, Steve of Vernal, Utah, Janice Martinez and Richard McClellan of Cortez, Gary Cross and wife, Helena of Roosevelt, Utah, Ricky Cross and wife, Judy of Delta, Colo., Randy Gill and wife Raelyn of Phoenix, Ariz., Lee Gill of Las Cruces, N.M., Douglas Gill of Aurora, Colo., and Michelle Earthly and husband, Andre of Texas City, Tex. She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Kathy Nieto and husband, Roy of El Paso, Tex., and Barbara Ray and husband, Kenneth of Goodland, Kan. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; by her son, Melvin Cross; and by her brothers, Bobby Burling and Gerald Burling. Memorial contributions may be made in Peggy’s name to Citizens State Bank.
