OTIS DEAREL DENTON Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Otis Dearel Denton will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 27 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Reverend Lynn Evans will be officiating. A visitation has been scheduled for Thursday evening at the Ertel Chapel from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Otis was born the son of John William and Estus (Campbell) Denton on July 31, 1922 in Lone Oak, Texas. He passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez at the age of 81. In 1945 Otis moved to the Cortez area. On August 21, 1945 in Roswell, N.M. he married Edith Koehn. He was a member of the Cortez First United Methodist Church as well as a member of the B.P.O.E. where he was an exalted ruler. Otis owned and operated Denton Auto Supply. A favorite pastime of Otis' was square dancing. His beloved wife, Edith Denton of Cortez; his son, Darrel Denton and wife, Mary Ellen of Littleton, Colo.; his two granddaughters, Megan Petty and husband, Jason of Provo, Utah, and Amy Denton of Lakewood, Colo., survive him. He leaves his siblings, Don Denton, Mary Lou Davis, and Robbie Jo Burnett. Preceding him in him in death are his parents; and one sister. Memorial contributions can be made in Otis' memory to the Scott McComb Scholarship Fund at Vectra Bank. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
