ORPHA AGNES KOPPENHAFER Funeral service for longtime Cortez resident Orpha Agnes Koppenhafer will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 15 at the Cortez First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Rev. Lynn Evans of the Cortez First United Methodist Church will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Orpha was born on September 19, 1907 in Tribune, Kan., the daughter of Guy Garfield and Minnie (Sheppard) Adams. She passed away on Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home at the age of 99. During her high school years Orpha enjoyed playing on the basketball team. Orpha married William George Partridge on June 4, 1925 in Rico, Colo. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before he passed away on September 1, 1977. Orpha married George John Koppenhafer on June 5, 1981 in Cortez. George preceded her in death on March 22, 1990. She was a past member of the Southwest Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Cortez Women’s Bowling Association, and the Cortez First United Methodist Church, and she was a current member of Rebbekah’s. Orpha was a hard working woman who loved to spend her spare time bowling. She was still bowling in leagues well into her 90s. Surviving Orpha are her children, Mary McCabe of Cortez, Willella Wilber and husband, Kermit of Cortez, and George Allen Partridge and wife, Gloria of Americus, Georgia; and her step-children, Dean Koppenhafer and wife, Doris, Georgia Hembree, and Florence Bane, all of Cortez, Dorothy Carver and husband, Daniel of Dolores, DeVota Goad and husband, Lawrence of Fruita, Colo., Charlotte Veach and husband, Jerry of Omaha, Neb., Vern Koppenhafer and wife, Anna Ruth and Burson Koppenhafer and wife, Cynthia, all of Cortez, Gerald Koppenhafer and wife, Carla of Mancos, and Nita Koppenhafer of Fruita, Colo. She also leaves behind her siblings, Aaron Adams and wife, Susie of Wimberley, Tex., Gwinn Adams and wife, Faye of Cortez, Virginia Logan and husband, Keith of Concord, Calif., and Irma Ortbahn of Alpena, S.D.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Orpha was preceded in death by her parents; and both of her husbands, William Partridge and George Koppenhafer; and two infant children. Memorial contributions may be made in Orpha’s memory to either the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086-0918 or to the Cortez United Methodist Church.
