Ona Lee Olson

Ona Lee (Calhoon) Olson passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Vista Grande Inn, Cortez, Colorado. Ona Lee was born on October 20, 1928 to Elwin J. and Elva Calhoon in Dolores, CO. On December 20,1948 Ona Lee and William (Bill) Olson were married in Aztec, New Mexico. They had been married 64 years when Bill passed away in 2013. Ona Lee came from a family that pioneered the settlement of SW Colorado, and married a wonderful man from a family of Colorado pioneers as well. Ona Lee was a hard working farmer's wife, as well as a bookkeeper all of her adult life. She loved living on the farm, and spending time camping and enjoying the great outdoors of SW Colorado. She especially cherished her granddaughter and great grandson, and loved time spent with family and friends. Ona Lee was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and she was happiest when having family "get-togethers" at her home. Bill and Ona Lee got to travel the country during Bill's tour of duty in the USAF, and then they settled back home on the Olson family farm. In 1995 Ona Lee and Cindy took a dream vacation to visit Shawna in Hawaii, and had the time of their lives. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Olson and Clifford Malone, granddaughter Shawna (Jeff) Lively, great grandson Brendan Lively, her sister Norma "Bobbie" Malarnee" (Kent) of Calgary, Alberta, brother Elwin Calhoon Jr. of Boise, Idaho, and brother Jack Calhoon of Cortez, and by numerous extended family members, friends, and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William A. (Bill) Olson, brother Ed Calhoon, and sisters Marjory (Calhoon) Smith and Kate (Calhoon) Story. A Celebration of Life will be held for Ona Lee at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Dolores Community Center.
