OLIVER MAZE JR. Funeral services for Cortez resident Oliver Maze Jr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church, Empire Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Oliver was born on May 10, 1955 in Dennehotso, Ariz. the son of Oliver Maze Sr. and Etta Benally. He passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock at the age of 52. Oliver loved mechanics and repairing things. Surviving Oliver are his children, Ernest Jones and wife, Sheyenne of St. Cloud, Minn., Corrine Blackhorse and husband, Mitchell of Cortez, Marina Balderama and husband, Rafael of Cortez, Olivia Maize, Lita Maize, and Carmelita Maize, all of Cortez; his father Oliver Maze Sr. of Dennehotso, Ariz.; his siblings, Anna Maze, Betty Redhouse, Susie Clah, and Victoria Dan, all of Dennehotso, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Lorrena Jones in 2006; and his brothers, Tom Maze who passed away 25 years ago and Thomas Maze who passed away 16 years ago.
