Norman Eric Hanson passed away on Sunday June 30th of an apparent heart attack. He was born October 12th 1955 in Stuttgart, Germany, to Glen and Lovina Hanson. He is survived by his older sister, Terry and her husband Tim McComb; and his younger brother, Kirk. He also had a stepdaughter, Laura; and her daughter Daneen; and his nephew Terry McComb. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 at ten o’clock in the morning, at the Mancos Valley Church. Pastor Charles Story will be officiating.
As a boy he liked all the usual things. Getting dirty, model airplanes, and the occasional mischief. Upon graduating high school, he enters the United States Army. Norman decided not to make it a career and was honorably discharged and returned to Cortez. "Rudy" as he became known, somehow stayed out of trouble living in the "The House Behind" those of you that were familiar with it, know what I'm talking about. Those of you that don't are better off.
Norman moved To Carmel, California, where he learned carpentry, stained glass and other things. In 1981 returning to camp from a mountain air festival he got in a serious car wreck, which altered his life forever. After his recovery he returned to Cortez. He met Arleen Amaral and they bought a place in Mancos where they lived until her death last year. Norman was involved with the Mancos Valley Church which he enjoyed very much. He will be missed very much.
