Norma McComb

Norma McComb was born to Robert Neal & Dorthy (Swaner) Neal on May 28, 1944, at the home place in Arriola.

She attended Arriola School 1st through 8th grades, then graduated from Montezuma Cortez High School in 1962. After graduation she attended 1 year at the University of New Mexico before moving to Denver and obtaining her Cosmetology License. She and high school sweetheart Jerry McComb were married in 1964 and lived in Boulder, CO while Jerry completed his accounting degree. They then moved to Cortez, CO where Jerry had an accounting office for 60 plus years. She worked at the office for 20 plus years, learning all that was needed to be an office manager. This last spring they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Norma loved the days spent at Lake Powell with friends and family. Many hours were spent in the sand and water enjoying every moment. She also loved trapshooting with husband and friends, golfing, doing jigsaw puzzles, crafting and best of all was going to the mountains and to the family cabin. She was adored by her grandchildren, Finn, and Macy, and was always cheering them on at their events.

She was proceeded in death by parents, aunts, uncles, and many dear close friends. Her greatest loss was her oldest son, Scott Dustin McComb in 1980. She is survived by her husband Jerry, Son Trent (Wendi) McComb, grandchildren Finn Scott McComb and Macy Ryann McComb and one brother Charles Neal of Arriola, and many cousins and nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. A favorite time was lifting a glass of Pepsi and Jim Beam with friends. You may honor her by lifting a glass and repeat her favorite saying, I didn’t come to the grave for a perfectly preserved body, but to slide in sideways saying “Wow, what a ride is was.”

Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, October 11 at 1:00 PM at Cortez Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
