Norma Jean Coppinger

Memorial services for Cortez resident Norma Jean Coppinger will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Cortez, CO. Pastor Bruce Burkett will officiate.
Norma was born on June 25, 1935 and became one of our heavenly angels on June 12, 2021. As the youngest daughter of Cecil and Ella Milligan, Norma would often play hooky from school so she could go to town with her mom and dad. While in high school she met the love of her life William (Bill) Coppinger. They were married on November 9, 1952. From this union 4 children were born: Darrell, Betty, Ginger and Donald.
Throughout her life she held many jobs including Slavens, Speedy Groceries, and Vista Mesa. The job that gave her the greatest pleasure was feeding the children of Cortez as a cafeteria worker at Kemper Elementary School for 44 years until her retirement in 2019.
When not at Kemper you could find Norma, helping at Four States Junior Rodeo events, cheering for her daughter, son and granddaughter while they are/were on the tug-o-war board in Silverton, riding around God’s country looking for baby deer and baby elk, and making shirts for her granddaughters. Norma loved to crochet, read and making memories with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, and her son Darrell and her daughter Betty. She is survived by her daughter Ginger and husband Lew of Cortez, Colorado, son Donald and wife Laura of Neosho Missouri. Granddaughters: Terra and Tamis Sapp (Remington) of Cortez, Colorado. Brianna Wolfe and Husband Gerald of Neosho Missouri and Grandson: Justin Coppinger and wife Lorrie Ann of Muscatine Iowa. Three great grandchildren, her sister Esther Reed and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Norma Coppinger Memorial fund at Dolores State Bank to help children with school lunches.
