NINA SUE (SUSIE) ZION October 26, 1958 - November 19, 2010 Nina Sue (Susie) Zion of 902 Hillside, Dolores, Colo. died November 19, 2010 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez after a courageous struggle with cancer. Nina Sue Zion was born on October 26, 1958 at the old Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez to Harold A. Miller and Beatrice Phillips Miller. Her father operated a machine shop in Dolores and her mother was a teacher and homemaker. She is survived by her sons and daughter in law, Jared and Stacy Zion of Cortez, Colo. and Cullen Zion of Peoria, Ariz.; her siblings, Ellis Miller of Cortez, Colo., Leroy Miller of Denver, Colo. and Coleen (Milt) Moore of Sedona, Ariz.; nieces and nephews Sheri Miller of Castle Rock, Colo., Christopher (Bess) Miller of Pueblo, Colo., Kendra (Cameron) Watkins of Cortez, and Jeremy (Brittney) Gonzales of Cortez. She also leaves behind great-nephews Kyle and Braden Watkins whom she adored as well as many friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold A. and Beatrice Miller and brother Philip Miller. Susie chose to live her entire life in Dolores and raise her sons there. She played a vital role in the community as secretary at Dolores Elementary School where she dispensed love, hugs and tardy slips to two generations of Dolores children. She was well known for her infectious laugh and creative culinary skills which she brought to bear with such projects as holiday dinners, celebrations in the teachers' lounge and the "lucky" chicken and homemade noodles she prepared for the football team before games. Her family was the highlight of her life and her home was a welcoming place for everyone whenever good food and good fellowship were in order. Susie serves as an example of how to laugh, how to love children, how to see the value and dignity in everyone and how to earn the friendship and respect of good people. Her immense legacy of joy, love and generosity will brighten future generations through the lives she has touched and simply because she resided among us for a time. A Celebration of Life Potluck will be held Sunday, December 5, 2010, 1:00-3:00 PM at the Dolores Schools Commons and Gym. Please bring a side dish or dessert.
