NINA L. BISHOP Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Nina L. Bishop will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Empire Street. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for 12:30 in the Relief Society Room at the LDS Church before the service. Nina was born on February 9, 1930 in Pueblo, Colo. the daughter of Jess B. and Opal (Holybee) Cook. She passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 74. Nina was a dedicated homemaker who loved sewing, canning vegetables, crocheting, and embroidering. She was also a wonderful cook and gardener. Nina is survived by her husband, Willard Bishop of Cortez; her children, Linda Burns and husband, Bob of Durango, Bruce Bishop and wife, Vonita of Etna, Calif., Barbara Mellott and husband, Jim of Kenai, Alas., Ronda Lancaster and husband, Sam of Pleasant View, and Kelly Candelaria and husband, Jim of Cortez. She leaves 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and has two new great-grandchildren on the way. Her brother and sisters, Bill Cook and wife, Lois of Craig, Colo., Iona Stanley of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mabel Jeanne Hall of Pueblo, Colo.; as well as her sister-in-laws, Nelta Wilson of Denver, and Pearl Bishop of Dolores survive Nina. Preceding her in death are her parents; her grandson, Derek Lancaster; and her sister and brother, Vera Shaw and Jess Cook, Jr. Memorial contributions can be made in Nina’s memory to the Derek Lancaster memorial fund at either Citizens State Bank in Cortez or at First National Bank in Durango.
