MYRTLE MATILDA BASKETT Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Myrtle Matilda Baskett will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Myrtle was born Oct. 25, 1904 at Bardstown, Ky. the daughter of William Morgan and Octavia (Barnes) Tewell. She passed away at the Valley Inn Nursing Home on Tuesday, April 20, 2004. Myrtle was 99 years old. In 1919 Myrtle moved to this area. She had been active with St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and the Senior Citizens Center. Surviving Myrtle are her son, Charles Baskett and wife, Billie of Cortez; her daughter, Patty Stewart and husband, Dudley Priset of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; lots of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and three great-great-great grandchildren. Myrtle and her family felt especially blessed to enjoy six generations that were part of her family. Preceding Myrtle in death were her husband, John Perry Baskett who passed away April 19, 1973; her daughters, Marie Maslen and Louise Randolph; and by five brothers and five sisters.
