Mona Lois Bergey

MONA LOIS BERGEY Mona Lois Bergey passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Durango after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. She was 60 years old. Mona was born the daughter of John and Joy Ann (Ramsey) Mills on October 21, 1950 in Montrose, Colo. Mona married Thomas Guenther Bergey on December 26, 1981 in Durango. She was a very active member of Durango's Frontier Baptist Church. She spent 20 years working in home health as a CNA. In her free time, Mona enjoyed photography and art. She also loved time spent outdoors gardening and four wheeling. Most of all, though, Mona enjoyed the time she spent with her grandkids. At various times, Mona had resided in Cortez, Mancos and Durango. Surviving Mona are her husband of 29 years, Tom Bergey of Bayfield; her two sons, Matthew Galloway of Ignacio and Aaron Galloway and wife, Jolene of Mancos; and by four grandchildren. Also surviving Mona are her mother, Joy Ann Hughes of Ridgway, Colo.; her grandfather, Henry Frenze of Ridgway, Colo.; and her siblings, Teddy Butler Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Cindy Diaz and husband, Ralph of Los Angeles, Calif., Cherie Rogers and husband, Rod of Virginia and Crystal Doane and husband, Don of Berthoud, Colo. Mona was preceded in death by her father John Mills; grandmother, Nelva Bea Frenze; and her sister, Sandy. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Mona Bergey with the Bank of Colorado in Durango or Mancos Valley Bank in Mancos or Cortez. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
