Funeral services for Mancos resident Moises Rivera will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Saint Rita Catholic Church. Reverend Pat Valdez, C.R. will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mancos, Colorado. A viewing will be held at Ertel Memorial Chapel at 5:00 p.m. and a Rosary will follow at 6:00 pm on Sunday, October 28, 2018.
Moises was born November 26, 1922 in San Lorenzo, Chihuahua Mexico the son of Nicolas and Viviana (Gonzales) Rivera. He passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos at the age of 95.
Moises came to the United States in 1950, and one of his greatest accomplishments was becoming a United States Citizen in 1968. He logged all his life in the national forest and for the match factory in Mancos. On April 1, 1957 he married Ophelia Martinez in New Mexico. Moises enjoyed panning for gold, fishing and spending time at the casino.
Surviving Moises are his wife, Ophelia Rivera of Mancos, CO; his children, Mary Lettig (Phil) of Salt Lake City, UT, Dolores Martinez of Mancos, CO, Nick Rivera (Wesley) of Mancos, CO, Nancy Odell (Wayne) of Mancos, CO, Jason Rivera of Fruita, CO, Sergio Rivera of Canon City, CO and Edwin Rivera of Phoenix, AZ; 16 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Moises was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Isaac Martinez.
