Join us at Evangel Assembly of God in Cortez, Colorado on October 18, 2021 at 2PM to celebrate the life of Lorraine Blanchfield born October 3, 1952 and went home to be with her best friend Jesus October 9th, 2021.
Mina “Lorraine” Blanchfield, born to Robert Francis and Mina Louise Blanchfield was raised in Grand Junction, Colorado. She attended L.I.F.E. Bible College in Los Angeles, California as did many of her relatives and is where she met Daniel Kardokus whom she married June 16, 1979. Lorraine had a rich Christian heritage which she passed on to her son Rob and her daughter Michelle.
When friends and family speak of Lorraine it’s usually with a smile and chuckle. She was a lot of fun to be around with her sense of humor and big heart. She loved well and reached out to many in the community as a founding member and president of Cortez Kiva, an organization dedicated to support and empower people with mental disabilities. For her work there, she earned the Francis T. Ishida Award which was presented to her in Denver, Colorado in 2003. She also provided de-escalation training for the local police force.
Lorraine enjoyed playing her tambourine at Evangel Assembly of God, worshipping with new friends at First Assembly of God, frequenting thrift shops, and spending time with her family. She loved gardening and was proud of the cherry tomatoes growing on her porch, but not as proud as she was of her grandchildren, Khriztopher, Tye, Marley, Brennan and Jax whom she loved doing things with including arts and crafts, playing Rummikub and Spoons.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mina Blanchfield; former husband, Daniel Kardokus; her sister, Eugenia Crone; her brother-in-law, James Kugeler; and her beloved Dachshund, Junior. She is survived by her son Robert Charles and Maraka Kardokus of Cortez, Colorado; her daughter Michelle Lorraine Louise Kardokus and Nathan Rockwood of Victor, Colorado; her “adopted” daughter, Megan Applin; her grandchildren, Khriztopher Kardokus, Tye Burkowski, Marley Jo Harrison, Brennan McCully, and Jackson Harrison Jr; her sisters, Bobbie Kugeler of Denver, Colorado, Mary Tury of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Ruby Lane of Payson, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.
Lorraine will be greatly missed.
