MILDRED MAY "MILLIE" LATCHFORD A Celebration of Life for Mildred May "Millie" Latchford a longtime Cortez resident will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12 at Cortez First United Methodist Church. Pastors Tom Towns and Suzanne Listemann will officiate. Millie passed away at Vista Mesa Assisted Living in Cortez on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Millie was 98 years old. Millie was born June 19, 1914 in Denver, Colorado to Jake and Lucy B. Fitting. She graduated from South High School in 1931 and attended the University of Denver. In October 1942 she married William K. Latchford in Stillwater, Okla. Their daughters, Mary and Janet, were born in Denver, Colo. The family moved to Westminster, Colo. where Millie was a Girl Scout leader for over a decade. Millie was an accomplished pianist and from the age of twelve was playing the piano for two churches in Denver. She continued to play the piano, organ and accordion throughout her life. She also loved ice skating and ballet, and was a member of the Colorado Ballet. Sewing, quilting, gardening, camping and fishing were also favorites of hers. Surviving Millie are her two daughters, Mary L. McKean and husband, Marty of Cortez and Janet Hayward and husband, David of Durango; three grandchildren, Lauri McKean of Kettle Falls, Wash., David McKean and wife, Lil of Lakewood, Colo., and Kimberly Woodson and husband, Rusty of Durango; and by five great grandchildren. Millie was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, William Latchford; a grandson, Chris Grotey; and by her brother, Kenneth W. Fitting. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in memory of Mildred M. Latchford with Hope's Kitchen c/o Cortez First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1016, Cortez or with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
