MIGNON KIRKPATRICK Memorial services for Cortez, Colo. resident Mignon Kirkpatrick will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 at St. Barnabas of the Valley Episcopal Church, 110 W. North Street, Cortez with The Reverend Erika Meyer officiating. Mignon was born to Norris "Doc" and Dorothy Hirsch in Goodland, Kans. on December 30, 1934. She died at her residence in Cortez on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the age of 74. Mignon grew up in Goodland where her greatest love was horses. She rode fences and herded cattle at the Golden ranch during her high school summers. After graduating from Goodland High Scholl, she attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and then transferred to the University of Kansas in Lawrence where she received her degree in Elementary Education and teaching certificate. She taught in Denver and then moved to London, England where she married Bruce Kirkpatrick. The Kirkpatricks lived in London, Iraq, Iran, South Africa and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Her first two children were born in London, then the family moved to Denver and later to Durango, Colo. where her children were raised. After her divorce, Mignon returned to college, earned a degree in accounting and became a CPA. She returned to Goodland for ten years where she practiced as a CPA, then owned Arrow Travel in Goodland. She later relocated to Cortez, Colo. to be closer to her sister, Judy, and her children. She was active in retirement, spending time traveling, weaving, playing music, and continuing to work in numerous volunteer positions. She was active in Episcopal churches in Denver, Goodland, Durango and Cortez, serving as organist, treasurer, vestry member, and on the alter guild. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, and a member of P.E.O. for over 50 years. In Goodland, she was a member of the Rotary Club, and a hospital board member. In Cortez, she volunteered at the Cultural Center, Good Samaritan Center and the Public Library. She was a Master Gardner and gave private piano lessons. Mignon was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her sister, Judy Osterhoudt of Cortez; son, David Kirkpatrick and spouse, Trish, and their children, Natalie and Everett all of Durango, daughter, Allison Colwell and spouse, Grant, and their children, Mackenzie and Zo of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Sarah Marbach and spouse, Don, and their children, Justine and Jake of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Margot O'Donnal and spouse, Jeff, and their children, Shelby and Ryan of Chandler, Ariz.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews and her loving friends. She was a very loving and gracious person and will be greatly missed by all of her relatives and friends.
