Melvin Lloyd Jarrett

MELVIN LLOYD JARRETT Melvin Lloyd Jarrett a lifelong resident of Cortez passed away at his home on Tuesday January 12, 2010 at the age of 53 with his wife by his side. Melvin was born January 25th, 1956 to Archie and Vera (Waldorf) Jarrett. Melvin was an extremely hard worker and a passionate electrician whom in the late 80's began working at Nice Electric and devoted his life to the company and its success ever since. An avid outdoorsman Melvin enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and horseback riding counting his horses among some of his best friends. Melvin was a loving husband and father and enjoyed a 21 year marriage to Cheryl Jarrett. He also took great pleasure in the time he spent with his two daughters and in the past year has thoroughly loved being a grandpa to two little boys. A respected member of the community Melvin was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by his countless family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Vera Jarrett. Melvin is survived by his wife Cheryl Jarrett of Cortez; stepson Jeremy and wife Brandie Shane of Cortez, daughters Stacie and husband Doug Pauly of Colorado Springs, Katelyn and husband Michael Arnett of Grand Junction; and grandsons Destry Pauly and Keaton Arnett. Also surviving Melvin are his four siblings, Jeanine and husband Jim Moore of Greeley, Sam and wife Juli Jarrett of Lewis, Bill Jarrett, and Bonnie Jarrett both of Cortez as well as his nieces and nephews and numerous other family members. A Celebration of Melvin's life will be held at the Lewis Arriola Community Center January 23, 2010 beginning at 2 p.m. with a chili supper to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial fund set up in Melvin's honor at The Dolores State Bank or to the American Cancer Society in his name.
