Melisa Lynn Kennedy (Lisa), 52, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at her home in Dolores, Colorado after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born October 1965 in Gunnison Colorado, the daughter of Morris and Mary Mewbourn. Lisa was raised and educated in Northglenn Colorado. After high school in 1984 she married her husband Phil Kennedy and soon after pursued a career in the United States Navy as a jet engine mechanic.
Lisa served proudly as a member of United States Armed Forces for ten years including active service during the Desert Storm Desert Shield campaigns of the early 1990’s. Lisa voluntarily ended her navel career she loved to take care for her terminally ill mother and soon after her father. Lisa went on to apply the same dedication and love she had shown to her parents in the rearing of her two children and being the best wife and mother she could be. To her being a wife and mother was her chosen profession and she unselfishly poured herself into her family until her death. Lisa loved marriage and family; she believed in the power of both and in 2008 became active in Christian marriage ministry and Kairos prison ministry. Lisa saw that by sharing her Christ Centered love and the lessons she had learned in life and in her own marriage with other couples and men incarcerated within prison walls, she could make the world a little better place.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents Morris and Mary; and brother, Mark Lee Mewbourn. She is survived by her husband, Phil Kennedy; son, Joshua Kennedy; daughter, Mandy Wimmler; and her grandchildren, Bailey Wimmler, Emma Wimmler, Blake Wimmler and Liam Kennedy. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date, please contact the family for more information. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Compassion International in her name.
